Unlimited Rockets go 6-0 by Defeating Methuen 24-0.
The Reading Rockets Unlimited team defeated the Methuen Rangers 24-0 on a beautiful fall day. Troy Pollock started by recovering a loose ball on the opening kickoff and the Rockets never looked back on their way to their sixth victory without a loss. After the recovery Dan Dimare converted a fourth and long play to the 9 yard line and Troy Pollock ran the remaining yardage on the next play for a 6 -0 lead. Blocking by Anthony Masucci, Lucas Laurenza and Stevie Needham paved the way for the 9 yard run. Pollock then scooped up a bouncing Ranger punt and returned it to the 7 yard line. This was quickly followed by his 7 yard touchdown pass to Lucas Fleming in the flat. The blocking was provided by Jay Kajander and Mason Dion. Dan Dimare was the beneficiary of a hole opened by Joe Gilligan, Adam Diemer and Danny O’Connor as he blasted up the middle for the third Rocket touchdown.
Methuen got tough and drove to the Rocket 2-yard line but the drive was stopped by the swarming Reading defense led by Joe Gilligan, Brendan Fox and Anthony Masucci. In fact, the Reading defense shined all afternoon thanks to the strong play by the aforementioned tacklers and teammates Jonathan Grady, Sean Cronin, Shaun Bekkenhuis, Giancarlo Musto, David Swanson, Evan Theis, Trevor Conroy and Zack Kenyon.
Also worthy of mention in today’s effort were the contributions of Reading’s White Offense. This group was responsible for Reading’s punishing ground game today, which ate up lots of minutes and allowed Reading to dominate in the all-important category of “Time of Possession”. Adam Nola was outstanding at center with perfect snaps all afternoon. Dom Decrescenzo, Jay Kajander, Brendan Fox, and Shaun Bekkenhuis handled most of the lead blocking duties while Max Ramos, “Lucky” Fortuna, Giancarlo Musto, David Swanson and Peter Mirogiannis anchored the front line. Peter Mirogiannis, the Tight End on this offense, pulled in a beautiful, over the shoulder catch to secure a 1st down on one of White’s many, long drives. Lucas Laurenza, (“The Diesel”), Joe Gilligan, Anthony Massucci, Dom Decrescenzo, Shaun Bekkenhuis and Jay Kajander all took turns carrying the pigskin today accounting for well over 150 yards in rushing offense.
Troy Pollock completed the scoring with a 70 yard run down the sideline. Blocks on the edge by Brendan Fox and Patrick Dwyer assured nobody would catch the speedy quarterback. The scoring was finished at 26 – 0 and the Rockets enjoyed a great day of football in Methuen.
