Rockets A Team Edges Everett 14-7
The Reading A Rockets went into Everett Memorial Stadium and established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the state by defeating the perennially tough Everett Crimson Tide, 14-7.
Reading opened the scoring in a penalty filled first quarter on a 7 yard touchdown by Lucas Fleming to lead 7 – 0. Reading’s offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage on the 65 yard TD drive.
Now the stingy Rocket defense led by Shaunn Bekkenhuis, Pat Duross and Jay Kajender played tough and stopped a long Crimson Tide drive. The Rockets pushed Everett back from a first and goal from the 3 into a fourth and goal from the 10 and took over on a fumble recovery by Lucas Fleming.
Everett tied the score in the third quarter and it looked like the next score would win the game. To cap off a long drive, Troy Pollack rushed through the Everett line and then sprinted for a 30 yard touchdown. After Pollack converted the extra point the Rockets were in control 14 – 7.
Everett was not done and moved the ball to midfield. On fourth and 15 and time running out the swarming Rocket defense led by Dan O’Connor, Dan Dimare, Evan Theis and Lucas Laurenza stopped Everett for a loss and the game was decided.
