Rockets A Team Win Round 1 Defeating Everett
The A Team took on a very large and strong Everett team on Sunday in a close game that was played to the last second. Reading began the game winning the toss and deferring. Everett took possession on the 40 yard line and immediately showed their strength pushing through the Reading defense. The Rockets held strong with Giacomo Iapicca, Eamon Centrella, Alex DiNapoli and Aidan Bekkenhuis leading the tackling.
Everett suffered a series of penalties pushing them back to midfield. Luke Benson, Josh Robichaud, Aidan Bekkenhuis and Joe Puglielli held back Everett, and Reading took over on downs. Unfortunately, Reading fumbled the ball giving Everett possession. Ben Hennessy, Jesse Doherty and Josh Robichaud came up big for Reading, but Everett managed to break through and score. They followed up with a field goal, 8 – 0.
With an onside kick by Everett, Alec Grande received the ball positioning Reading on the 48 yard line. Quarterback, James Murphy held the ball and ran then followed up with a handoff to Alex DiNapoli for a first down. Murphy and DiNapoli continued to lead the team downfield and scoring, 8 – 6. The quarter ended with Eamon Centrella, Ethan Bean, Luke Benson, Alex DiNapoli, Dylan Burpee and Aidan Bekkenhuis leading the defense.
With continued tough play by Alec Grande, Mason Moreira, Evan Ventura, Josh Robichaud, Grady Diemer and Luke Benson, Everett was held midfield. With a 4th down and 7 yards to go Alec Grande and Aidan Bekkenhuis stopped the receiver and Reading took over on downs. Quarterback James Murphy drove the ball downfield with a pitch to Giacomo Iapicca and a handoff to Aidan Bekkenhuis. Murphy then pitched the ball to Alex DiNapoli who broke 3 tackles to run it in for a touchdown. With Ryan O’Leary holding the ball Max Rizza kicked a field goal for a score of 14 – 8.
Everett started the second half of the game with an onside kick and Reading taking possession on the 47 yard line. Murphy moved the ball downfield but Everett intercepted the ball on the 13 yard line. Joe Puglielli, Alec Grande, Eamon Centrella and Collin Donahue led the tackling forcing a punt. Alex DiNapoli was on the receiving end of the punt and had a long run downfield to the Everett 20 yard line. Murphy brought Reading to the 7 yard line with a series of hand offs to Alex DiNapoli. On the 3rd down Murphy broke through the defense to score. Max Rizza followed up with another field goal, 22 – 8 Rockets.
During the fourth quarter both Reading and Everett continued to battle back and forth. Everett came close to scoring but Ryan Strout intercepted the ball on the 5 yard line. Everett was able to force the safety bringing the score to 22 – 10. The battle raged between the two teams with 37 seconds left on the clock Everett scored, 22 – 18. Everett attempted an onside kick that was picked up by Eamon Centrella. Reading held the ball, final score 22 – 18.
