Reading Unlimited advances against Lawrence, 19-0
The Unlimited Rockets won their opening playoff game behind the pounding running of Lucas Fleming, Dom DeCrescenzo and Jay Kajander. Combined with the hands of Pat Duross and the speed of Troy Pollock and Jaheim Nortelus the Rockets put three touchdowns on the board compared to none by the Hurricanes.
The Rockets took the opening kick and marched 60 yards for their first score. Lucas Fleming chewed up yardage behind Brendan Fox, Anthony Massucci, Logan Fortuna, Giancarlo Musto and Dillon Lee. The key plays were a fourth and 5 conversion by Fleming and a 5 yard touchdown run by Dom Decrescenzo. Lawrence was pushed around by the blocking of Zack Kenyon, Max Ramos, David Swanson, Patrick Dwyer and Peter Mirogiannis. After Troy Pollock threw a conversion pass to Pat Duross the Rockets led 7-0.
Patrick Duross intercepted a Lawrence pass to stop their first drive but the Rockets fumbled the ball back. The stout defense led by Lucas Laurenza, David Lynch , Jonathan Grady and Dan O’Connor made sure that mistake did not hurt. At the two minute warning Troy Pollack dropped back to pass but saw an open end on the left side. Blocking by Adam Diemer, “Awesome Joe” Gilligan, Adam Nola, Sean Cronin and Evan Theis opened the way for his 35 yard scramble to paydirt, making the score 13-0 at the half.
In the second half the Rocket defense continued to deny Lawrence of any significant yardage. Lucas “The Diesel” Laurenza, Steve Needham and Shaun Bekkenhuis were rock solid in stopping the Hurricanes.
In the fourth quarter the Rockets sealed their win with an7 yard end around by the speedy Jaheim Nortelus. The end was sealed by Trevor Conroy, Dan Dimare, Mason Dion and Jay Kajander.
The Rockets now advance to play Malden in the second round of playoffs.
