Reading Pop Warner A Team Remains Unbeaten

The Reading Rockets A team remained unbeaten Sunday, edging a solid Westford Jr. Ghost team 13-0 in a game played in a continuous downpour. The Rockets came on late as Patrick Duross broke a 0-0 tie early in the 3rd quarter with a 15 yard touchdown reception from quarterback Troy Pollock. The conversion was good and the Rockets would add another touchdown to complete the victory.

Both teams struggled to hold on to the ball throughout as wet conditions hampered both offenses. Westford immediately coughed up the ball on the opening drive, but Reading was unable to capitalize as a 4th down pass from Pollock just missed Trevor Conroy in the end zone. The drive featured strong running by Jay Kajander and Dan DiMare and strong blocking upfront from Pete Mirogiannis, Logan Fortuna, Max Ramos, and David Swanson.

Aided by a pass interference call, the Ghosts drove down to the Reading 15 yard line but the Rockets defense tightened up, led by Mason Dion, Dan O’Connor, and Steven Needham.

Reading took the opening kick of the second half and drove all the way to the Ghosts 20 yard line. Dom Decrescenzo, DiMare and Pollock all had key runs, with Jonathan Grady and Anthony Massucci leading the way. The drive was capped off by the Pollock to Duross connection.

Reading added a touchdown in the 4th quarter as Decrescenzo took a screen pass from Pollock and rumbled 75 yards down to the Ghost’s 2 yard line. Decrescenzo capped the scoring drive with a run behind blocks by Dion and Conway.
